ABOUT THE GREAT WALKExperience 6 days in the rainforest meandering through world-class walking tracks, in the magical paradise of Fraser Island. The Fraser Island Great Walk showcases the best of the natural and cultural features of the world’s largest sand island. As you embark on your hiking journey, you’ll transverse over 85km of stunning landscape, following traditional Butchulla pathways beneath towering rainforest, walk past crystal clear lakes and over vast sand dunes. Discover the island's history as you walk along paths where logging roads and tramlines once served a bygone forestry industry.
The Fraser Island Great Walk runs from Happy Valley on the middle of the eastern side of the island and travels south toward Dilli Village. During the 6 day walk you will experience The Valley of the Giants, a few sand blows and of course a collection of K'gari's most beautiful lakes, including: Lake McKenzie, Lake Wabby, Lake Birrabeen and Lake Boomanjin. The Fraser Island Great Walk provides challenging and remote routes for experienced walkers, however with our Glamping and Luxury packages, it puts less strain on walkers as you can walk pack free. Alternatively, you can choose to walk a short section of the track through one of our other walking packages, (they all follow tracks on the Great Walk) please check the links at the top of the page. NOTE: The Great Walk hikes will run on demand a few times throughout the year in our different hiking categories, adventure, pack- free camping and accommodated - we are happy to try to help provide which ever experience you require. If you are interested please contact us for pricing and more information. Please note we require 4-6 people to run this one of these hikes. |
